P.A.T Testers

PAT testers are used to inspect electrical appliances so you can be sure they’re safe to use and will function as they should. In commercial settings, having an easy way to check equipment and devices is key to ensure you’re adhering to regulations and that appliances won’t cause a risk to the health and safety of staff and the general public.

What are PAT testers?

PAT testers, also known as portable appliance testing equipment, are used to examine electrical appliances and equipment to maintain safety in your home or organisation. Many defects can be seen easily just by looking at a device, but others can only be identified with testing. Using a PAT tester is an easy and convenient way to check a device before using it, so you can be confident that it won’t cause any safety issues and will function properly. Being able to regularly test devices to check they are still safe is essential for compliance and keeps your business operating in the best interests of its staff and customers.

When to use PAT testers

From lighting and plugs to power tools, PAT testers can be used for a variety of applications. While new equipment is typically supplied in a safe condition, being able to carry out a quick check for used equipment gives you peace of mind that it won’t pose a safety risk. This is especially important for devices that aren’t used everyday, to make sure they haven’t become damaged in storage, for example. The frequency of testing depends on the equipment and how you use it. A power tool, for example, should be checked more regularly than a lamp because it poses a bigger safety hazard if there’s a defect.
