What Are Profile And Fresnel Lights?
Both profile and fresnel lights are lighting equipment used within the theatre industries around the world, and are well-known lighting systems to anyone working within the entertainment sector. Profile lights consist of a lens, a light source (LED or other), a reflector and a shutter or gate – the shutter or gate working to provide an accurate control over the beam of light. By adjusting the lens of a profile light, the light source can be altered between very harsh to very soft easily, to create moods and change the atmosphere of productions. Fresnel lights are soft-edged spotlights, with a beam that’s adjustable by moving the lamp or light source either away from the reflector, or close to it to change the angle of light being produced. Fresnel lights are an option that offer more control over the beam’s angle compared to flood lights, for example, which is why they are so popular in theatres.
When To Use Profile and Fresnel Lights
Profile and fresnel lights have the ability to create impact and atmosphere to stage performances, providing visibility and a change of mood where needed.
