Essential Supplies UK Ltd, a leading supplier of power distribution and event lighting solutions, has installed the first Electric Vehicle Chargers in Torpoint for public use. Two Mennekes, 22kW chargers are now available with type 2 connectors, allowing vehicles to charge at a maximum rate appropriate to the vehicle model, either 2.3kw, 3.6kw, 7.3kw, 11kw or 22kW. We have partnered with Monta to allow members of the public to simply scan a QR code, and pay for their charge without having to download a third party app.

The charger will automatically select the highest charge rate for your car.  For example, when using a 22kW charge rate, a large EV car can fully charge in 3 hours.

A suitable charging cable with the Type 2 connector is also required by the user.

Until now, anyone needing to charge their EV car while being in Torpoint has had to take the ferry to Plymouth or drive 16 miles to Saltash. But from today, 2 new EV chargers will provide fast and reliable charging for local residents, individuals travelling on holiday or visiting local businesses.

Simon James, Director at Essential Supplies said:

“We are delighted to offer these EV chargers here in Torpoint. Until now, the nearest chargers would require a long drive or a ferry crossing to Plymouth, but not before paying the, soon to be increased, toll charge. We pride ourselves on offering temporary vehicle charging solutions as part of our Titan Power EV charger business category. Today, we’re happy to communicate that we have created a permanent charging facility in Torpoint, at our own head office, for the benefit for everyone in the Torpoint area.”

Government plans to increase the current 30,000 to 300,000 by 2030, as reported by the BBC Business News, may sound impressive but would it be enough based on the current rate of Electric Vehicle adoption. And even, so, what happens with peak demand. Cornwall may be in for a huge influx of Electric Vehicles this summer. Temporary solutions might be what they need until 2030.
